Overview

Mt. Makalu is the fourth tallest mountain  in Nepal and fifth highest Peak in the world  with its height 8,463m. Mt. Makalu resides in the eastern Himalayas range just 19Km southeast of the giant Mt. Everest in the border of Nepal and China  The Makalu based on the Barun Valley, diverse species of flora and fauna with rich cultures of ethnic communities like Sherpa and Kirat. Although, this area is so beautiful Landscape, every trekkers who every step here will take a memorable reminiscence with them for their lifetime. Along the way really interesting agricultural land. It was in 1955, when the expedition led by French team reached to the top of Mt. Makalu for the first time. Sir Edmund Hilary took the photograph of Mt. Makalu in 1951 while he was on a route survey of Mt. Everest. Since the first climb to the top, several successful attempts had been made to the top of the peak. Makalu bears a pyramid shape. South East and the North West Ridges being the most prominent compared to other. Among these two, the North Western ridge route is used by most of the mountaineers to reach the top of the peak. Mt. Makalu Expedition in Nepal is full of adventures as well as dangers too. The Russian team scaled the west route, which is considered the most dangerous route, in 1997. They reach the top on 21st May 1997 following the most challenging route. It's very technical climbing snow mountain and quite challengeable route.
The base camp is generally set up around 5,600m. The first camp is at 6,100m, camp 2 is at 6600m, the third camp is at 7200m and the last camp is at 7600m.

  • Member transportation:
  • Fly from Kathmandu – Tumlingtar and drive from Tumlingtar to Num. While returning drive from Num to Tumlingtar and fly from Tumlingtar - Kathmandu.
  • Expedition Stuffs Transportation: Necessary all equipment Transportation for all Members and Staffs from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar (by air cargo/vehicle) and to Base camp (by Porters) – While returning: Base camp to Tumlingtar (by porters ) and Tumlingtar to Kathmandu (by air cargo/vehicle). -Member’s personal equipment will be transport by air.
  • Member Luggage: Up to 60 Kg per member for personal baggage during the trek carrying by porter or Yak.
  • Food and Lodging: 3 meals a day (BLD; including tea and coffee) along with accessible accommodation at Hotel/Lodge/Tea house/Camp during the trek and BC. Well-managed base camp set up for member & Staffs' tents will be set up while camping in sharing basis.
  • All Necessary equipment for Camping during the trek.
  • Porter:Porters per member up to Base camp from Num & Porters return from Base camp to Num.
  • Base Camp Staff:  Experienced and well-trained Base Camp Cook & kitchen Helpers as required.
  • Staff Salary and allowance: All Nepalese staffs & porter’s daily wages, equipment, food & clothing.
  • Base Camp Tent: Each member will have individual  tent in Base Camp.
  • Base Camp equipment: At Base camp: foam mattresses and pillow per member, 1 Dinning Tent, 1 Kitchen Tent, 1 Communication tent, 1 Toilet & 1 Shower Tent,  Staffs Tent, Tent for Nepalese base camp staffs, Store tents, Tables & chairs & all necessary cooking gears.
  • Heater:Heater for base camp.
  • Solar/Generator/Light:1 Solar panel or Generator for battery charge and light at base camp for use.
  • High Altitude Climbing Sherpa: Government Licensed Climbing
  • Climbing Sherpa Salary & Allowance: Climbing Sherpa Salary, Equipment, Food and Clothing.
  • Oxygen Bottle (O2): Summit Oxygen cylinder: 2 oxygen bottles (4 ltrs.) for each member and 1-oxygen bottles for each high-altitude Sherpa.
  • Oxygen Mask & Regulator: 1 Set of Summit Oxygen mask & regulator for each member and high-altitude Sherpa.
  • Back up Oxygen Cylinder, mask and regulator (with appropriate charge).
  • High camp service:  High Altitude Tent, Necessary cooking EPI gas, cooking pots for member, High food for member, Sherpa, all climbing and other crews at (C1) (C2) (C3) and (C4). Group climbing gears, fixed and dynamic rope during the climbing period as required.
  • Rope Fixing Team: The team of experienced Sherpas will fix the route on Makalu (no extra charge will be applied to members).
  • Satellite Phone for emergency communication carrying by Sherpa, also available for members with appropriate charge.
  • Walkie-Talkie: Walkie –Talkie for communicating from Base Camp to Mountain and Mountain to Base Camp.
  • Permit: Satellite Phone / walkie-talkie permit for all members and staffs.
  • Weather Forecast: Weather forecast report during the entire expedition.
  • Comprehensive Medical kit.

  • Nepal entry Visa fee: Nepali Visa fee US$ 60 per person for 30 days (to be applied for 60 days (USD$ 120).

  • Extra night in Kathmandu: Extra nights’ accommodation in Kathmandu. In case of early arrival or late departure, early return from Trekking / Expedition (due to any reason) than the scheduled itinerary.
  • Insurance: Travel and high-altitude insurance, accident, Helicopter medical & emergency evacuation. *Mandatory
